A Couple More for the Weekend...

A few posts below I uploaded some great politcal music (sorry Doug, no Neil Young!) .

I did, however, forget a couple I meant to post below, so instead of making everyone scroll down I thought I'd tack them up here. Oh, and in case you're unfamiliar, System of a Down ROCKS. Have a good weekend everyone.

How could I have forgotten one of the most pertinent songs about the Iraq war recorded since the invasion?

BYOB
Listen:

Why do they always send the poor?
Barbarisms by Barbara
With pointed heels
Victorious victories kneel
For brand new spanking deals
Marching forward hypocritic and hypnotic computers
You depend on our protection
Yet you feed us lies from the tablecloth!

Everybody's going to the party, have a real good time
Dancing in the desert, blowing up the sunshine.

Kneeling roses disappearing into Moses' dry mouth
Breaking into Fort Knox stealing our intentions
Hangars sitting dripped in oil
Crying FREEDOM!
Handed to obsoletion
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth!

Everybody is going to the party, have a real good time
Dancing in the desert, blowing up the sunshine.
Everybody is going to the party, have a real good time
Dancing in the desert, blowing up the sunshine.

Blast off! It's party time!
And we don’t live in a fascist nation!
Blast off, it's party time!
And where the FUCK are you?

Where the fuck are you?
Where the fuck are you?

Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?

Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?

Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?

Kneeling roses disappearing into Moses' dry mouth
Breaking into Fort Knox stealing our intentions
Hangars sitting dripped in oil
Crying FREEDOM!
Handed to obsoletion
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth

Everybody is going to the party
Have a real good time
Dancing in the desert
Blowing up the sunshine
Everybody is going to the party
Have a real good time
Dancing in the desert
Blowing up the sun

Where the fuck are you?
Where the fuck are you?

Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
They always send the poor
They always send the poor!!!

As I've said about Neil Young, Bob Dylan is obviously a great lyricist, but I much prefer the versions of those covering his songs than the recording by the original artist. Here's a classic, performed live by Pearl Jam.

Masters of War
Listen:

Come you masters of war
You that build the big guns
You that build the death planes
You that build all the bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten all the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
While the death count gets higher
Then you hide in your mansion
While the young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

hey! your thing finally let me leave you a message! yeah! so, i'll definately be checking your offerings, but if you never hear from me again, it's because i can't get through. i have no idea what the idiots ratings are where i live, but it sickens me to say i'm in a red state. stupidity abounds. regardless, i'm very interested to find out what this latest diversion (illegal immigrants) is all about. is it just me, or has anybody else noticed how the whole country goes off on a tangent right before some really big bullshit wrong comes out? and for some reason, nothing is ever done about it. i don't get it. but i'll be back checking your stuff. keep both hands on the wheel, and drive straight. catch ya later bill and ted.

awesome songs. And yes! system of a down ROCKS. Its good that more political music is getting out there, because people are more likely to listen to music than to follow what's going on. and even if they follow the news, its so slanted that you have to do real research to find out the truth.

Ellie thanks, SOAD is such refreshing music. It took me a little while to warm up to them in the past few years but now I totally love them.

Welcome to the site Fred ;-)

okay, i have to click on the time you wrote the post and then i have to back arrow it to click on "post a comment." i can't access "post a comment" at anytime unless i do this. so that means that i can't get it at first on the bottom nor can i get it when the comments come up. i have to do this with one other blog i read. i don't get it, but it seems to work this way. don't go changing anything because that'll just mess me up. kidding.

That SOD album is great...

Favorite lines:

"You and me
Will go down in History
With a sad statue of liberty
And a generation that didn't agree"

Just saw the Sox pics. The Yankees do suck. I think you'll like this:

My dad sent it to my just after they won the World Series. Love the Sox and have been in the Green Monster many times.
