Stop Republican Adoption

It’s almost as if the news imitates the words of the progressive bloggers sometimes.
About 3 days ago, I wrote about fear tactics used by Republicans, and specifically highlighted instances where gay men were painted as predatory toward children, while the real criminals overwhelmingly tend to be heterosexual in their adult relationships.
Well, almost as if on cue, the arrest of Mr. Brian J Doyle (that’s B.J. Doyle for all of you keeping score at home) occurs and gives us all another living breathing example of how the gay father next door to you shouldn’t raise your eyebrows as much as the cranky Republican asshole living right across the street.
Now, are all Republican assholes pedophiles? Well, it's a good question but no, not all of them. But I thought I’d share the list of some of my favorites (more than a hat tip to DKos). Forward this to your homophobic, PTA attending, “what about the children” cousin in Spokanne the next time she lobbies against her kid having a gay Cub Scout leader.

Stephen White, Republican preacher. Was arrested after allegedly offering $20 to a 14-year-old boy for permission to perform oral sex on him.
So of course people on both sides of the aisle are caught doing this stuff, and I won't even challenge anyone to find a list of Democrats this significant (although I doubt the Democrats are doing this as often).
However, even if you could, the Democrats are not typically aligned with the Christian Coalition, are not accusing gays of being pedophiles, and are not typically drafting anti-gay legislation. Liberals are not climbing mountain tops in order to preach morality and wag their shame-on-you finger at those who are different from them, and are not basing their entire campaigns on claiming to know God better than their opponent.
Therefore this is not necessarily a lesson in which party abuses children more. It's about hypocrisy.

11 Comments:
You know, why is hypocrisy not more ingrained in society as a sin. Why is it all the kids grow up thinking they can cloak their desires in the cloth of Jesus, act upon them as adults, point fingers in other directions and be absolved of guilt? Why is hypocrisy not one of life's big lessons, taught early in childhood, as a really bad thing?
It's no wonder they are against abortion.
Cheers,
Jessifu
Like the post but take exception to the PTA remark! I don't think we should perpetuat ethe stereotype that only stuck up intolerant bitch soccer moms can and should be involved in their children;s school and activities.
I will wave the finger at the person who is detached and indifferent about educational involvement over a PTA attender- any day. We have to get over this idea on the left that we are perpetually marginalized, the loony fringe, the crazy camp and that we don't belong at traditional events or meetings or activities. School involvement is very important and it is not necessarily about wearing pearls and bake sales- its about putting children first.
Just putting in my two cents on that ONE SMALL detail. Thanks for listening. Rant officially over.
Elizabeth, I totally totally agree. No offense meant whatsoever. I think when I wrote that it was more of a “insert wholesome stereotype here” type of thing. The judges would have also accepted, “housewife,” “soccer mom,” “church-going closet homophobe,” and “700 club viewer.”
I think PTA involvement is great – and specifically for the reason you stated. I don’t have kids (and recently not even a girlfriend!) but I love your point about taking the public school or educational rudder back from the actual soccer mom, 3-yellow-ribbons-on-the-back-of-the-minivan type.
And, for the record, I’m not even against soccer moms…because after all, my mom was a soccer mom once too. And a basketball mom. And a baseball mom. And she was great a doing all three.
So yeah, take it more as a space-filling metaphor rather than an actual slam against any of these types of women.
When the revolution comes we will force the republican homophobes to serve drinks at the gay night clubs, just as retribution. Pat Robertson, well, see what happened to Mussolini...
James - the threat of which you speak is all too real...HUMAN ANIMAL HYBRIDS.
Celtic...I'd love to see Pat Robertson in that outfit Vedo had on last night (you watch the Sopranos right?)
Brilliant headline.
I take great offense to the term "church-going closet homophobe". I know plenty of c-gch's and I can tell you that they are not in the closet. They just don't know what a homophobe is. Or, for that matter, that they are one.
All they know is "marriage is for a man and a woman and not for a man and a man and a woman and a woman and a man that dresses like a woman and a woman that has a short haircut and a man and a circus clown and a woman and a plant and monkeys and cats and ....".
Great post Jeremy.
Amen, brother. Hypocrisy indeed.
Thanks for stopping by YFP!
There is a common demoninator here between abortion and sexual abuse of children: it is CONTROL. Controlling women and children and terrorizing them with that control. Been there and didn't want any part of that!
I found this website by accident. I was looking up stuff on adoption. Please, please don't think all church- going republicans are hateful homophobes. I know there are a lot of jerks and liars out there that are, but we're not all judgemental butts. If they really read the Bible and didn't just listen to mean-spirited hypocrites, they'd learn that the real Jesus wasn't hateful OR homophobic. I guess I just wanted you to know that.
