Those in Favor of the Port Deal: Bush, the UAE and...Bush!

I've always been interested in knowing what people affected by particular political agenda have to say about those trying to legislate for them.

Let's face it - there are certain areas of the nation that are of *much* interest to Islamic militants than other areas. For example, New York City? Pretty good looking target if you're a terrorist.

Ashland, Kansas? Not so much.

In fact, I find it interesting the way most of these prime targets and more importantly, those who experienced the attacks first hand or who lost loved ones voted. You just might recall - New York, New Jersey, Boston (city of departure for 9/11 flights), California (including target cities L.A. and San Francisco), Chicago, Miami, Washington DC, Pennsylvania – not did they not vote for Bush, they voted overwhelmingly against him.

With that in mind, what are the 6 governors of the states directly affected by the Dubai deal saying?

Pennsylvania's Governor Ed Rendell says, “Trust us is not good enough,” and is threatening the to not renew the least for the Port of Philadelphia, saying, "We can just not renew (it).”

Maryland's Republican Governor Robert Ehrlich says, "We needed to know before this was a done deal, given the state of where we are given security."

Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco had this to say: “I share the security concerns expressed by citizens, Congressional leaders and my fellow governors regarding the decision to permit a United Arab Emirates-owned company to take over some shipping operations at six major U.S. seaports. We in Louisiana take the management and safety of our ports seriously and we expect the same from Washington."

New Jersey's Governor Jon Corzine is filing lawsuits (both federal and state) to block the deal, and said it "fails the basic test of common sense."

New York's Republican Governor George Pataki said "Ensuring the security of New York's port operations is paramount and I am very concerned with the purchase of Peninsular & Oriental Steam by Dubai Ports World. I have directed the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to explore all legal options that may be available to them in regards to this transaction.”

“But Jeremy, please, tell us about the 6th governor,” you beg?

Take it away, Florida governor Jeb Bush:

"I have full confidence that the president of the United States will make the right decision as it relates to our national security interests."

Of course you do Jebber. Of course you do.

I don’t know what I find more despicable, the left who distorts this calling it a security issue to destroy Bush’s relations with the moderate Arabs or the racist rightist’s knee jerk reaction against anything foreign. 50 years ago Americans did not live by the feud, did not look to get even like the Irish Catholics, today we do. In 2008, we will have more of the same (my prediction) or else we will have a Democratic president and we will see a blood bath of partisan ‘getting even’ like never before. (I’ll be there) I find it incredible that the two people supporting this have been Rush and Bill O, the two biggest racist bigots of the Republican Party. I guess it takes practice to see racism when it jumps out and bites you. Because of your superior knowledge and elite intellectual abilities on the operation of the terminals in the ports of the United States, you know this isn’t about security, you are obviously a racist. You should be a Republican.

If this is the same anon who told me to put a turban on my head a while back, you’ll excuse me if I don’t take your comments about racism very seriously.

Look – this deal is opposed by scores of Republicans and Democrats alike, the Coast Guard, and every governor (except for Jeb) who has a major port affected in this deal. Democrats are not the only ones concerned about this, and no, it’s not because they’re Arabs. Liberals by and large don’t have the reputation or history of denying commerce to people simply because they’re different, my friend.

Given all the facts I stated about the UAE below – and considering all we’ve heard is how much “things are different since 9/11” from this president – the same president who mentioned terrorism zero times pre-9/11, and every day since – you need to really examine how hypocritical you sound by criticizing those who have national security concerns on a bipartisan line. Pataki has hardly been a presidential adversary in the past 5 years, I'm not sure he's against this deal because he's anti-Bush. Your argument doesn't make any sense.

Once again, feigned outrage is fucking pathetic. Just stop, hardly anyone is taking you seriously.

Oh, and when you get a chance - let me know how the left is trying to destroy our nation's relationship with the moderate Arab world after reading this:

Jeremy, there's no accident behind the areas where we are attacked. In Israel, they say that 11 of 12 terrorist attacks get foiled, with the terrorist getting killed or incarcerated. So, the rule of thumb in Israel is that any terrorist attack must target 12 or more people. Here the Bush administration claims they are foiling 99 of 100 attempts, and the numbers have to correspond (of course, I don't beleive those numbers whole heartedly).

Also, terrorism is meant to strike at our daily lives, at the actions that we consider normal, and inject fear into those actions. Thus, the places where we work, shop, and things of the sort will always be targets.

Thus to allow a foreign entity, any foreign entity, to have control over entryways into many of the areas that would fit this description is both lunacy and stupidity. I only hope and pray that Congress can override the president's veto on this issue.
