A Preview of Tonight's State of the Union

***Update 2/1/06, 1:30pm – MoxieGrrrl has uncovered the most significant issue from last night’s speech…you can read more here.

One thing I'll say about Bush is that he doesn't mince words. Oh, and he's doin' a heck of a job.

I swear they had electric cattle prods in the seats. No one hops out of their chairs more than the elected officials of our country, all clapping and crazy and shit. Looked like a gawd durned game show. Where the hell was Bob Barker?

What were everyone's impressions of the speech last night? My favorite part was when Bush said, “we did not ask congress to reform social security,” and the Democrats spontaneously stood and gave a standing ovation in the middle of his sentence.

It reminds me of last year’s SOTU when Bush said, “The Patriot Act is due to sunset this year,” and the Democrats erupted in applause.

Now, I will say this – the response by the VA governor was pathetic. It was incredibly vague, soft, and he looked like a jackass. Wow...Democrats looking like jackasses...what a concept.

Yeah, I can see where you see how it's childish...the whole formality of it is a little much.

One thing I found very interesting (and for some reason this is the first year I noticed) is that the Supreme Court is VERY careful about what they can and can't applaud.

When the president makes a blanket statement such as, "I'm for a stronger American," they can cheer...but when he comments about policiy, or even a non-partisan issue that may one day come before the court - regardless of whether or not it's something the entire chamber is cheering - they sit very quietly, hands folded.
